Members of the Orailix team recently took part in both the ISCO 2024 conference and its associated summer school, held in La Laguna, Tenerife, on 20–24 May 2024. The summer school featured lectures by Amitabh Basu (Johns Hopkins University) and Andrea Lodi (Cornell Tech and Technion), focusing on the interplay between machine learning and discrete optimization. Topics included polyhedral techniques for neural networks, the use of combinatorial optimization to promote sparsity in models, and machine learning approaches for improving branch-and-cut algorithms. These sessions provided valuable insights for bridging optimization theory and machine learning practice.
